CESSNA 441, MEDFORD, ORE., JUNE 18, 2002–The pilot and three passengers on board a Cessna 441 N564AC were uninjured when the airplane’s right main gear collapsed while on landing roll at Rogue Valley International Airport (MFR). The accident occurred at 7:50 p.m. while operating under Part 91. N564AC, operated by Erickson Air-Crane, sustained substantial damage.
The flight departed Lake Tahoe Airport in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., about 1 hr 20 min before the accident. It was flown in VMC on an instrument flight plan.
According to the ATP-rated pilot, after takeoff the gear retraction did not feel normal and it appeared as though the gear cycle did not end. The pilot re-cycled the gear and noted that both the gear transition light and the hydraulic light failed to turn off at the end of the cycle. The landing gear circuit breaker was pulled to turn the hydraulic pump off after the gear handle was toggled to the up position. Passengers visually confirmed that the right main gear was not retracted.
Before landing the pilot observed three green lights on the gear position indicator subpanel. During the landing roll, the right main gear collapsed. Upon initial post-accident inspection, it was found that the right main gear trunnion roll pin had sheared.
