The NTSB is investigating the October 25 crash of a chartered King Air A100 (N41BE) that killed Sen. Paul Wellstone (D-Minn.), his wife and a daughter, along with three staff members and the two pilots. The twin turboprop, reportedly chartered from Executive Aviation/Aviation Charter Inc. of Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie, Minn., the departure field, went down in a wooded area a few miles from Eveleth-Virginia (Minn.) Municipal Airport while on approach. The weather at the time of the 10:20 a.m. CDT accident was reported as 400 ft overcast, visibility five miles, light snow, and winds less than three knots. Wellstone was up for re-election this month.
