Hawker Beechcraft King Air A90-1, Tampa, Fla., June 12, 2006–The captain’s poor in-flight planning and his failure to establish the airplane on a stabilized approach for a forced landing resulted in the airplane’s landing on a taxiway near the departure end of the runway, said the NTSB. The failure or malfunction of the primary hydraulic low pitch stop of both propellers for undetermined reasons contributed to the accident, as did the excessive approach airspeed and the failure of the captain to align the airplane with the runway.
During cruise, both propeller secondary low pitch stop lights came on, indicating the system prevented both propellers from going below the low pitch hydraulic mechanical stop. Unable to correct the condition, the pilot elected to land. The Dynamic AvLease airplane ran off the runway, hit a house and caught fire. The captain was killed.
