Embraer has selected the Kollsman enhanced-vision system II (EVS II) from Elbit Systems of America for the Lineage 1000. This avionics option will be offered in combination with Rockwell Collins’ head-up guidance system (HGS) 5600E.
“This system improves the capability of business aircraft to execute precision and nonprecision approaches and safely land in fog, rain, snow and other reduced visibility conditions,” said Embraer vice president of executive jet programs Henrique Langenegger.
The optional Kollsman EVS II, combined with Rockwell Collins’ head-up display, will also provide Lineage 1000 customers with improved situational awareness in flight and during ground operations. The system’s certification is expected by 2010.
Meanwhile, Elbit Systems said European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) airworthiness authorities approved EVS II for new operational credit in low-visibility conditions. Under the approval, aircraft with EVS II can land in visibility that is one third less than the requirement for other aircraft. This is generally equated to the parallel FAA rule in which EVS-equipped aircraft can proceed to 100 feet height above touchdown using the system.
