The TSA yesterday announced that it will hold five official public hearings next month for the business aviation community to provide feedback on the agency’s proposed Large Aircraft Security Program (LASP). In its current form, the plan would require Part 91 operators of aircraft with an mtow of more than 12,500 pounds to create a TSA-approved security program, subject flight crew to FBI criminal background and fingerprint checks and run all passengers, including family members and employers, against the TSA’s watch lists. “We appreciate this effort by the TSA to hear from the people in our industry whose operations stand to be greatly affected by this proposal,” said NBAA president and CEO Ed Bolen. “I strongly encourage anyone able to participate in these meetings to mark their calendars and plan to attend.” The meetings will each begin at 9 a.m. local time at the following dates and locations: January 6, White Plains, N.Y.; January 8, Atlanta; January 16, Chicago; January 23, Burbank, Calif; and January 28, Houston. Bolen will attend the meetings in White Plains and Burbank, and NBAA staff will be on hand at each of the meetings. The public comment period on the proposal ends February 27.
