Satcom Direct last month became a distribution partner for Inmarsat’s SwiftBroadband service, giving the Melbourne, Fla. satcom data reseller access to live troubleshooting and diagnostic information. The designation will help Satcom Direct engineers alleviate congestion and other network issues for business jet customers flying anywhere in the world. Based on technology deployed in Inmarsat’s latest I-4 satellites, SwiftBroadband supports IP and circuit-switched applications at faster data rates and lower cost than the previous Swift64 service. The maximum data rate of the service is 432 kilobytes per second, available over much of the planet except for coverage gaps near the poles. Inmarsat also offers SwiftBroadband streaming services at 32, 64 and 128 kbps.
