Bombardier Learjet 35A, Kansas City, Mo., Feb. 24, 2009–The co-pilot who was flying the aircraft at the time inadvertently lined up for landing on the wrong runway. Approximately one mile from touchdown, the co-pilot decided to maneuver to land on the correct runway. On final approach the airplane drifted to the right of centerline and at a height of 10 feet the pilot-in-command ordered the co-pilot to perform a go-around, during which the right wing dropped and the right main tires settled on the runway. During the go-around the tower notified the flight crew that there was a white mist coming from the airplane’s right tip tank. After an uneventful landing, inspection showed substantial damage to the outboard portion of the right wing. The co-pilot reported that the wind was gusting from the east (left) during landing. Local wind was reported 11 minutes before the accident as 160 degrees at six knots.
