Cessna 208, Frederick, Md., April 21, 2009–While taxiing after landing, the pilot of the Caravan owned by Greystoke Engineering reported the engine spooling down after a “pop” sound was heard. He then saw smoke coming from the engine compartment and requested assistance. The airport line crew extinguished the fire, but not before it had extensively damaged the fuselage. A preliminary inspection of the engine revealed heat damage in the compressor section. According to the pilot, the engine had accumulated approximately six hours since its last overhaul.
