Content Body

The FAA is seeking comments on an Airworthiness Directive aimed at contaminated Halon 1211 used in some handheld cabin fire extinguishers. According to the FAA, “The contaminated nature of this gas, when used against a fire, may provide reduced fire suppression. In addition, extinguisher activation may lead to release of toxic fumes, possibly causing injury to aircraft occupants.” The AD became effective January 19; comments are due by February 19. To comment, go to www.regulations.gov and search for docket E9-31134.
