Rep. Vernon Ehlers (R-Mich.), a staunch ally of general aviation and a founder of the new House General Aviation Caucus, is retiring at the end of his current term in Congress at the end of this year. He currently serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. Ehlers is also co-chairman of the aviation caucus, which seeks to educate policymakers about the value of general aviation, including business aviation. Throughout his tenure, NBAA said, the congressman has supported key aviation proposals. For example, last June he cosponsored an amendment to bring the TSA to the table with industry representatives to discuss changes to the agency’s controversial Large Aircraft Security Program.
