Oceanside, Calif.-based repair station AeroHoff Inspection Services is “a mobile advanced NDT provider and the only third-party MAUS [mobile automated scanner] operator in the country,” James Hofer, AeroHoff Inspection Services’ president, told AIN. MAUS is a scanning system for NDT inspection of large areas, such as an airframe, incorporating ultrasonic pulse echo, ultrasonic resonance and eddy current scanning ability. “Our approved one-sided MAUS inspection is used for airworthiness directives looking for cracks in wing skins under bonded heater blankets, skin and substructure of crown skins,” he said. The company operates a truck for calls within driving distance but the equipment is compact and can be transported by aircraft. “We go all over the world and are frequently contracted by insurance companies,” he said. Aerohoff offers dye penetrant, borescopic, eddy current, magnetic particle and ultrasonic inspection service. It also offers advanced mobile eddy current C-scan inspection for corrosion loss and ultrasonic C-scan inspection of composite materials looking for the extent of impact delamination/unbond damage that is not visible from the surface.
