Hawker Beechcraft A100, Moab, Utah, Aug. 22, 2008–The Board was unable to determine what caused the turboprop twin to crash soon after takeoff on a Part 91 flight, killing the pilot and all nine passengers on board. The King Air went down in hilly terrain approximately one mile from Canyonlands Field Airport and less than 100 feet above the elevation of the takeoff runway. The entire flight occurred under the area’s air traffic radar coverage and there were no witnesses. The aircraft was not required to be equipped with flight recorders. In 2009, the NTSB issued a safety recommendation calling for all existing turbine-powered aircraft which operate under Part 91, 121 or 135 that are not equipped with flight recording systems to be retrofitted with them.
