New Airport Opens in Utah

Marking the changing of the guard last month in Utah, one St. George Municipal airport (SGU) closed, while another officially began operations. The new St. George Municipal Airport (DXZ) took two-and-a-half years to build at a cost of $166 million. At 1,200 acres it is five times the size of its predecessor. The 9,300-foot runway is 3,300 feet longer than the previous facilityís, and there is room to lengthen it to 11,000 feet if necessary. Three FBOs serve the new airport: Direct Jet Center St. George, Above View and St. George Aviation. Regional airline service is scheduled to begin in March.
