At 1 p.m. on Saturday, the former naval air station in Brunswick, Maine, reopened as Brunswick Executive Airport (BXM). More than 200 state and local dignitaries, the public and fly-in visitors attended the opening ceremony. Airport owner Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority (MRRA) envisions BXM becoming a major MRO facility, a location for transient business aircraft with passengers meeting with local businesses, a refueling stop and a jumping-off point for transatlantic business flights. The MRRA forecasts that in its first year, BXM will sell some 100,000 gallons of fuel and handle 9,000 aircraft movements, mainly transient business and general aviation traffic. Norwood, Mass.-based FlightLevel Aviation is providing FBO services, initially from a 50,000-sq-ft portion of Hangar 6, near the northeast end of 8,000-foot Runway 1R/19L. The remainder of Hangar 6 houses Kestrel Aviation, a start-up company led by Cirrus Aircraft founder Alan Klapmeier that is developing a composite turboprop single.
