NBAA’s 26th annual Maintenance Management Conference opened yesterday in San Diego, celebrating the contributions of flight department maintenance managers and highlighting opportunities to grow as managers and leaders. The conference this year is host to more than 100 exhibitors, including OEM service networks, avionics manufacturers, parts suppliers, training companies, engine overhaulers and more. “The show is going quite well,” said incoming NBAA Maintenance Committee chairman Marlin Priest, director of maintenance for Birmingham, Ala.-based McWane. “We’re engaged in trying to change [today’s technicians] through education, and provide a path for development,” he said. “We’re excited about what we see.“ Speaking to the flight department maintenance managers yesterday, Phil Roberts, former NBAA chairman and Ford Motor corporate travel director, said, “You all need to be ready for the changes in this business that are coming.” Added J.D. McHenry, president of training company Global Jet Services, “All this great information means nothing if you decide not to become leaders and managers. This is a great opportunity. What a place to be. Go back home and make an impact on the people around you.”
