Cabin completions provider Lufthansa Technik is in the final stages of preparation for the arrival of a second Boeing 747-8 for outfitting at its facilities in Hamburg, Germany.
The airplane, destined for an undisclosed client, is expected to arrive before the end of the month. The first 747-8 is already in the cabin completion process following its arrival in August. Arrival of the second will bring to three the total number of twin-aisle bizliner projects being completed simultaneously.
According to Lufthansa Technik, preparation for completion of the new 747-8 included “intensive engineering planning, qualification programs, assembly of all production resources and implementation of the necessary modifications in the aircraft hangar.” Delivery of both 747-8s to their respective owners is expected in 2014.
At Lufthansa Technik’s BizJet International subsidiary in Tulsa, Okla., where the focus is on smaller single-aisle bizliners, the center prepares to open a fourth line early next year.
According to the parent company, a partnership with Airbus in the ACJ318 completion program and individual projects has left “just a few free slots [at BizJet] until mid-2014.”
