Signature Flight Support broke ground late last week on the first FBO at Panama’s Tocumen International Airport. The new 7,000-sq-ft facility, which is expected to open late next year, will include a customer lobby, pilot’s lounge, in-house customs and immigration facilities and dedicated customer parking. However, a Signature spokesman said the location will not include any hangars.

Signature’s sister division ASIG currently performs the commercial flight handling operations at the airport. “ASIG Panamá, S.A. commenced operations in 2011 at Tocumen as the airport’s sole provider of aviation fuel services and has since invested significant capital in infrastructure and equipment to meet projected growth at the airport,” said Michael Scheeringa, president and CEO of BBA Aviation’s flight support division, which includes both ASIG and Signature.

The airport was extensively modernized in 2006 and is one of the busiest in the region. “Tocumen represents an important gateway for Latin America. Panamanian customers will enjoy the nicest general aviation facility in all of Central America, which is fitting for the international gateway to the region, as well as its center of commerce,” Scheeringa noted.
