Philips and Desso Launch Luminous Carpeting

Philips and Desso have launched a system that integrates LED lighting into carpet, allowing for creation of luminous art as well as a practical and efficient way of guiding people through virtually any environment.

The patented LED carpet technology can replace the clutter of existing signage with engaging floor covering directions that can be pre-programed or changed as desired, such as in an emergency requiring immediate evacuation. “It brings information, direction, inspiration and safety via the carpet you walk on,” said Philips Lighting marketing and sales director Ed Huibers.

Philips and Desso, both based in the Netherlands, have agreed to work together to develop markets in Africa, Europe and the Middle East. A product name is to be announced this year as part of the launch.
