The Civil Air Navigation Services Organization (Canso), on January 26 published its Safety Management System Implementation Guide, to help improve safety across the air traffic management (ATM) industry, one of the organization's five mandates. "The Canso Safety Management System Implementation Guide will make a major contribution to improving safety across the ATM industry," said director general Jeff Poole, speaking at the organization’s global ATM safety conference in Bangkok. He added, "Canso has made good progress on its five safety priorities, but we are stepping up our efforts with ICAO, states and industry partners to raise the bar on safety even higher.” Canso’s other safety priorities are reducing runway incursions and excursions, improving incident reporting by protecting sources of information, establishing globally harmonized safety performance indicators and improving the exchange of safety information and data across the air transport industry.
