Content Body

Last week, the NTSB issued a preliminary report into the February 11 crash of a Beech 1900 shortly after takeoff from Miam Kendall-Tamiami Executive Airport. The Board said a review of the aircraft’s maintenance records showed the left propeller was due for overhaul and was indeed removed while the aircraft was on the ground at the airport. The accident flight was the airplane’s first with the overhauled propeller.

An additional review of FAA air traffic control radar and voice communications revealed the turboprop began a slight left turn just a few seconds after the crew reported the engine failure, although the crew apparently did not specify which was the bad engine. The aircraft never climbed higher than 300 feet agl. Witnesses reported the aircraft flying left-wing-low with the left propeller turning more slowly than the right just before impact.
