A relatively simple and low-cost ADS-B OUT solution is now available for business jets and turboprops equipped with Rockwell Collins TDR-94/94D transponders and GPS4000S receivers. The STC is available from CMD Flight Solutions, which partnered with Dan Buzz & Associates for design and certification.
The STC is an approved model list (AML) certification covering airplanes equipped with Rockwell Collins Pro Line 4 and 21 avionics and the TDR-94/94D and GPS 4000, including the Beechjet 400/Hawker 400XP; Falcon 10, 20, 50, 900 and 2000; Challenger 601, 604 and 605; Hawker 700, 800A and 800XP (the 850XP is being added shortly); Learjet 31, 35A and 60. Part 23 airplanes in the Citation, King Air and Piaggio families will receive a separate AML STC this summer.
The installation meets the latest ADS-B OUT standard (DO260B) and requires adding a Skylight Avionics Digital Discrete Adapter (DDA) mounted near one of the transponders; the DDA “takes digital data off the transponder bus and provides ADS-B function status,” according to FAA designated engineering representative Dan Buzz. The ADS-B OUT solution is available to any avionics shop and costs $14,998 for one airplane or $12,998 each for a package of five (plus installation).
Next in line are similar STCs for TDR-94/94Ds paired with Universal UNS-1(-)w FMSs and Honeywell HG2021GD04/6 GPSs (coming in May and June, respectively), according to Buzz. These will be followed by STCs with GPSs made by Esterline CMC and FreeFlight Systems.
