Destin, Fla., has changed the names of its airports in an effort to avoid confusion and serve its customers better. The former Northwest Florida Regional Airport (VPS)—not to be confused with Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport in Panama City—has taken the name Destin-Ft. Walton Beach Airport, while the general aviation-only Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport (DTS) has been renamed Destin Executive Airport. The changes stemmed from analysis by a research firm tasked with determining how best to market the commercial airport. The change should be especially appreciated by the business aviation community as it further delineates the split between the two airports. As one FBO operator at DTS said to AIN, “Maybe now people will stop calling us asking for Delta Air Lines.”
