Embraer Legacy 500 Sets Four Speed Records

Embraer’s new Legacy 500 midsize jet recently set four new world speed records in its class. The first two records were set on a March 7 journey from Oakland, California, to Lihue, Hawaii, and back, carrying six passengers. The outbound flight over the 2,135-nm route took 5 hours and 49 minutes, with a ground speed of 420 mph. The return leg took just 4 hours and 11 minutes at an average ground speed of 586 mph.

Another record was set by a Legacy 500 that flew from Friedrichshafen, Germany, to Bangor, Maine. The 3,210-nm flight was completed in 6 hours and 50 minutes. The fourth record involved a flight from Düsseldorf, Germany, to Dubai. At 3,268 nm, it is the longest flight undertaken by a Legacy 500 to date. After a flight of 7 hours and 3 minutes the Legacy 500 landed with 1,900 pounds of fuel, having demonstrated an average hourly consumption of just 1,590 pounds.
