Content Body

As much of Texas continues to dry out from last month’s widespread flooding, Redbird Skyport, an FBO at San Marcos Municipal Airport in the heart of the area inundated, hosted a fly-in with a variety of aviation-themed attractions this past weekend. All fuel sale proceeds were donated to the Hays County chapter of the Salvation Army.

The FBO remained in operation during the entire storm period, acting as an air rescue base for the National Guard, Star Flight Medevac and local fire department and EMS services. At one point during the storms, a dozen Black Hawk helicopters maintained a continuous tempo of landing, refueling and heading back out to search for storm victims. As the Red Cross set up a mobile trauma center at the facility, Redbird distributed dry towels, free food and beverages from its on-site café for the pilots and those they rescued.
