Part of a refurbishing project undertaken by Columbus, Ohio-based Spirit Aeronautics included the first ever installation of a Steecon electric cabin door in a Challenger 604. The project also included a Rockwell Collins Venue cabin management system, updated lavatory, new soft goods and new wood in designated areas.
“The customer had the opportunity to ride in a larger aircraft and noticed that it was equipped with an electric pocket door in the forward cabin, a feature that was extremely appealing to him,” stated Tony Bailey, president and COO of Spirit Aeronautics. The company could not find an example of an electric cabin door havingbeen installed in a Challenger 604, "so we started looking at aircraft like the Global 5000. That led us to Steecon, a leader in aircraft cabin doors, including electrically actuated forward cabin doors for the Global 5000 . Steecon provided a door mechanism that met all customer expectations; it is absolutely amazing and works flawlessly,” Bailey said.
