Developers of applications that run on Apple mobile devices report that the latest version of Apple’s operating system, iOS 8.4, fixes a compatibility problem with external GPS devices. The previous iOS 8.3 update introduced a problem that rendered some external GPS devices unable to send location data to the mobile device.

A ForeFlight Mobile customer notice about iOS 8.4 noted, “Our testing did not reveal any significant issues.” ForeFlight performed a quality review of the following GPS receivers on an iPad running iOS 8.4: Bad Elf GPS Pro, Bad Elf GPS Pro+, Dual XGPS150, and Dual XGPS160. “These devices now perform as expected.”

Most iOS aviation app-makers also reported no external GPS problems with iOS 8.4.
