Bristow Helicopters (Nigeria) Limited confirmed the Sikorsky S76C+ that crashed in Lagos on August 12 carried 10 passengers and two crewmembers. Six of the 12 aboard perished, including the two pilots, one of whom was a U.S. citizen. The extent of injuries suffered by the other passengers has not yet been reported.
The helicopter was en route to Lagos-Murtala Muhammed International Airport from an offshore oil rig when it crashed into the Lagos lagoon near Oworonshoki, just north of the city of Lagos, at about 3:30 p.m. Nigeria’s Accident Investigation Bureau recovered the flight and data recorder from the helicopter on Friday.
