Gama Aviation received approval for a 350,000-sq-ft expansion project at Sharjah International Airport in the UAE, following the addition of ramp space in August to accommodate more large-cabin business jets. The project, green-lighted this week by Sheikh Sultan III bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, ruler of Sharjah, is designed to help meet the needs of the Middle East business aviation market, which is projected to grow by 7 percent annually over the next decade.

The expansion project will entail 108,000 sq ft in new facilities, including two hangars, office space, an FBO terminal complete with a security area and passenger and pilot lounges. It will also provide 226,000 sq ft of apron and aircraft parking space.

Construction will start later this year and is expected to be completed in the third or fourth quarter of next year, a Gama spokesman told AIN. Gama currently provides FBO and MRO services at Sharjah. Globally, the company offers engineering design, aircraft management, charter operations and aviation and ground management systems.
