McKinney Air Center, the airport-owned FBO at Dallas-area McKinney National Airport, has opened a new 18,000-sq-ft hangar capable of sheltering aircraft up to a GV. The $1.7 million structure was funded by a McKinney Community Development Corporation grant and the airport fund. According to Mark Jaraczewski, assistant airport manager and general manager of the FBO, the hangar was already filled before completion, with five jets contracted for one- or two-year leases. It brings the aircraft storage space at the facility, the airport’s lone service provider, to 350,000 sq ft.
Another similar-sized hangar is currently in the design phase, and ground-breaking is scheduled for the fall, with a targeted completion in spring 2017. The airport possesses another 40 acres of undeveloped land to foster further development. McKinney, which features a 7,000-foot runway, sees approximately 117,000 operations a year. “More pilots are learning that McKinney National airport is an excellent option for corporate jets in the Metroplex, with amenities such as on-site customs, location on the fringe of Class-B airspace and award-winning ground services,” said airport director Ken Wiegand.
