Content Body

A chartered Boeing 737 carrying Indiana governor and Republican vice-presidential candidate Mike Pence overshot its landing on New York La Guardia’s Runway 22 last night, plowed through the arrestor bed and ended up on the grass. None of the 48 passengers nor any crewmembers were injured.

Weather at the time of the incident, about 8 p.m. EDT, was reported as heavy rain. Emergency crews responded, and passengers deplaned the campaign aircraft via a mobile airstair without incident. Many were members of the media covering the Presidential campaign.

The 737-7L9 was removed at around 4 a.m. this morning, and crews had repaired the arrestor bed and the runway reopened by 7:30 this morning. La Guardia’s other runway, 13-31, remained open. Built in 1998, N278EA was registered to Wells Fargo Bank NA Trustee on May 28, 2015. Flight information for N278EA is blocked from FlightAware. It’s unclear what damage the aircraft suffered in the incident.

On March 5, 2015, Delta Air Lines Flight 1036 ran off of La Guardia’s Runway 13 on landing, coming to rest on a berm at the edge of Flushing Bay. Several passengers were injured.
