Wyoming’s Jackson Hole Airport might soon be receiving a second FBO. Its governing board last month unanimously authorized issuing a request for proposal (RFP). According to airport manager Jim Elwood, the board responded to a request by a party interested in establishing another service provider at the airport, which is currently served solely by Jackson Hole Aviation.
“The FAA has pretty distinct criteria for airports to consider in determining whether there is room for a second FBO, and that was the core of the decision,” Elwood told AIN, as the board considered if the opportunity exists for a second FBO to function on the airport, which sees approximately 83 operations a day. The RFP is currently under review, and Elwood expects it to be issued later this summer.
The heads of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) and the Experimental Aircraft Association all submitted letters in favor of establishing a second FBO at the airport, which had supported two FBOs in the past.
