Starting next month, Surf Air Europe will relocate its base from London Luton to London City Airport (LCY), where it will use the Private Jet Centre FBO for its all-you-can-fly membership service. At its current Luton base, the company boards and deplanes passengers at the Signature Flight Support facility for its London-Zurich flights, which became a daily weekday service effective November 13.
UK-based FlairJet, which operates a Phenom 300 for Surf Air Europe, is working on obtaining the required steep approach approvals to fly into LCY. The light jet type has already been approved for the steep 5.5-degree approach into LCY, but FlairJet crews must also receive special training and permissions to fly at the airport, which is in the heart of the London financial district. Once this approval is in hand, the Zurich service will be transferred to LCY.
Meanwhile, Surf Air Europe is adding two Pilatus PC-12s to its fleet, marking the entrance of the turboprop single—which is already a staple at the company’s U.S. locations in California, Nevada and Texas—at its operation in Europe. The new PC-12s will be based in Zurich and used to fly members to Luxembourg starting in February, with service to Munich beginning a month later.
The membership charter firm also aims to eventually add service to Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Cannes, Dublin, Duesseldorf, Geneva, Ibiza, Milan and Paris.
