Canadian MRO provider Flying Colours has begun work on a long-term contract it had signed with MHI Canada Aerospace to paint the center fuselage sections of the Bombardier Global 5000/6000 at its Peterborough, Ontario facility. MHI, a Tier 1 Bombardier supplier, delivers the shrink-wrapped fuselages to Flying Colours, where they undergo a pre-paint inspection before the eight-stage paint process, which includes priming as well as applying corrosion inhibitors and fuel barriers, before the final paint applications.

In support of the contract, Flying Colours built a $1 million, 4,000-sq-ft addition to the location’s existing paint shop, featuring two separate spray bays, offices, and storage. Flying Colours' facility, a Bombardier authorized service location and preferred completion center, has developed a large degree of familiarity with the Global series.

“We have worked with this aircraft for more than 10 years, which has given MHI Canada the confidence in Flying Colours’ ability to fulfill the required mandate,” said John Gillespie, the maintenance provider’s president. “We have invested significant time, money, and planning into making this project a long-term success. It also demonstrates we have an expert team that can fulfill extensive long-term paint projects of this nature wherever they come from in the world.”
