Honeywell’s BendixKing business unit has announced an upgrade path for RDR2000 weather radar owners to modify the units to the RDR2060 system. The modification involves replacing the receiver/transmitter with the ART2100, which is form-and-fit compatible with the original ART2000, as well as upgrading the radar’s software. Cost of the upgrade is roughly a third of the price of a new RDR2100, and ranges from $5,995 for the upgrade to $8,745 for an exchange unit.
Benefits of the new RDR2100 upgrade include increased transmitter power; boosted range, up to 320 nm from 240 nm; auto range limiting; sector scans; auto step scan; and auto tilt.
To qualify for the upgrade, the RDR2000 must be compliant with mod 3 and be in repairable condition. The modification includes compliance with mods 1 to 13, but not including mod 3.
