NBAA recently released a formal two-page statement, “Ethical Business Aviation Transactions,” designed to serve as a resource for best practices. The statement addresses a handful of major themes: honest and ethical conduct; conflicts of interests; company funds and other assets; business records; and compliance with state, federal, and international laws.
Developed by a varied group of business aviation professionals, the statement is not intended as a replacement for a company’s own ethics policies. The statement is solely focused on business aviation transactions, while a company’s policy might deal with broader concerns, said Jad Donaldson, NBAA's Business Aviation Management Committee chair and director of aviation at Harley-Davidson. Rather, NBAA is hoping that the statement will be viewed as a general approach to best practices.
The statement can provide a starting point for companies without ethics policies and be used to foster discussion, NBAA noted. It can also serve as a tool to encourage ethical behavior industry-wide, it added.
“Embracing a culture of ethical behavior supports NBAA’s mission to foster an environment that allows business aviation to thrive in the U.S. and around the world,” the association said. “By retaining a positive image, both within the community and among the public at large, business aviation will succeed and grow.”
