FAI Technik, the maintenance division of Germany’s FAI Aviation Group, reported record financial results of €9.7 million ($11.9 million) for 2017. That’s an increase of 40 percent over 2016, according to the company.
FAI Technik’s 4,500-sq-m (48,438-sq-ft) carbon-neutral Hangar 8 opened last year; it is the largest general aviation hangar complex in Germany, when coupled with the 2,000-sq-m (21,528-sq-ft) Hangar 6 and 3,000-sq-m (32,292-sq-ft) Hangar 7. The 60-strong full-time staff recently completed its most challenging project to date: refurbishing a Bombardier Global Express cabin with an XRS interior, a 6,000-man-hour undertaking, including the concurrent 18-month inspection.
The Nuremburg-based MRO also recently completed a combined 96- and 192-month inspection on a Challenger 604 operated by Air Independence of Germany. The Challenger also received a full cabin refurbishment and fresh paint. Air Independence also has a Global Express in for a cabin refresh. The ultra-long-range business jet is also undergoing an avionics upgrade, adding Batch 3 Honeywell avionics, ADS-B-Out, and high-speed Internet technology.
Siegfried Axtmann, FAI Group chairman, said: “We are extremely pleased to close the year with record results. Our excellent performance was driven by our ability to expand our capacity to meet a growing demand for MRO services. I am very proud of our organization as we continue to develop our MRO business.”
