Wayman Aviation Academy has added two diesel Cessna 172 jet-A-burning models, bringing its fleet to 33 aircraft, the Florida-based Part 141 training provider announced this week at Sun ’n‘ Fun. According to Wayman Aviation, benefits such engines provide include an increase in fleet availability, since compression ignition engines that burn jet-A require less scheduled maintenance, and lower emission levels of carbon dioxide than those burning unleaded avgas.

“South Florida is an environmentally conscious place, with miles of beautiful beaches and the expansive Everglades. We need to do our part in the flight training industry to participate in its preservation,” company officials said.

Meanwhile, Wayman Aviation Academy’s two locations—at Hollywood North Perry Airport (HWO) in Pembroke Pines and Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport (OPF)—have joined the Chiway Group. The educational group has two university locations in Singapore and China, as well as several K-12 schools.

“We are pleased to take the next step in the growth of this 31-year-old academy,” said Alfredo Luy, co-founder and director of flight operations at Wayman Aviation Academy. “This will help us meet the international pilot shortage that threatens our global transportation needs.”
