The FAA has developed a new instrument departure for Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE) in Colorado that NBAA said will not require prior authorization or training, nor will it require advanced required navigation performance (A-RNP) capability. NBAA is hailing the BEVVR RNAV SID for EGE as the culmination of a successful collaboration between the agency and the association.


To be effective July 19, the BEVVR RNAV Sid will replace the COTTONWOOD TWO special-departure procedure. NBAA noted non-authorized operators occasionally had used COTTONWOOD TWO.


The FAA had considered replacing COTTONWOOD with a procedure that was still a special departure and would require an A-RNP feature that many operators did not have, said Rich Boll, chair of the airspace, ATC and flight technologies working group of the NBAA Access Committee. “We were apprehensive about the consequences of losing COTTONWOOD,” Boll said. “We brought our concerns to the FAA, and in less than six months, FAA developed BEVVR, a separate RNAV SID for Eagle.”


NBAA highlighted the need for access to EGE, a busy business aviation airport that can be an option for operators when poor weather makes Aspen-Pitkin County Airport (ASE) unavailable.
