Rockwell Collins has received FAA certification for its ADS-B Out Part 25 approved model list supplemental type certificate (AML-STC). It covers multiple aircraft models from Bombardier, Gulfstream, Textron, and Sabreliner. The solution pairs the company’s TDR-94/94D mode-S transponder variant with either its GPS-4000S global positioning sensor or a Freeflight Systems 1203C SBAS/GNSS position source. It also supports Applied Avionics’s Vivisun ADS-B Fail annunciators with integrated Arinc 429 discrete signal converter, which responds directly to the Arinc 429 data bus and provides a “fail” indication to the pilot, eliminating the need for any additional hardware. According to Rockwell Collins, this latest transponder improvement automatically generates a fixed flight ID from the mode-S code for U.S.-registered aircraft.

“The December 31, 2019 mandate is rapidly approaching, and a significant number of aircraft are not yet compliant,” said Craig Olson, vice president and general manager for business and regional systems at Rockwell Collins, adding that operators that intend to meet the mandate should be scheduling their upgrades. “Our ADS-B Out solutions are in service and available.”

This certification is in addition to the Part 23 AML-STC that Rockwell Collins announced earlier this year. Further validations are expected from EASA and Mexico’s Directorate General of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC).
