Group business aviation purchasing organization Aviaa has signed Patriots Jet Team, a provider of upset prevention and recovery training (UPRT), as a safety supplier. Patriots Jet Team is based in the San Francisco Bay Area and claims to be “the only provider to offer real-world upset training throughout the full aerobatic envelope.” For upset recovery training, it uses Aero Vodochody L-39s and Sabreliner 60s that are suited to business jet operators and pilots.

“There is widespread recognition, endorsed by ICAO, EASA, FAA and national aviation bodies, of the seriousness of risks associated with flight upsets resulting from loss of control in flight,” said Patriots Jet Team owner Randy Howell. He added that the new partnership would mean Aviaa members could conveniently access UPRT expertise beyond satisfying regulatory safety requirements.

The Patriots Jet Team UPRT client program runs for two days, commencing with four hours of ground school, followed by two one-hour flights in the L-39 with 5.5 hours of pre/post-flight briefings, and progressing through to full aerobatic maneuvers for one hour in the Sabreliner, with 3.5 hours of pre/post-flight briefings.

Aviaa and Patriots Jet Team will both be exhibiting at the NBAA Regional Forum on Thursday in San Jose, California. Patriots Jet's Sabreliner will also be on static display at the event.
