Content Body

Air carriers and certain other operators must use the pilot records database (PRD) beginning on December 7 to obtain records from the FAA, the National Air Transportation Association (NATA) is alerting members. At that point, the FAA will no longer accept Form 8060-10 for the records, the association said, but added operators can obtain the pilot information via the PRD beforehand.

The latest deadline followed a requirement for operators to have registered for PRD access through the Myaccess portal by September 8.

These deadlines are part of a transition under the FAA’s final rule that established Part 111, Pilots Records Database, requiring pilot employment electronic recordkeeping for a range of operations including, for the first time, corporate flight departments. Released in May, that rule requires Part 119 certificate holders, fractional operators, and air tours to submit and review information in the PRD. Corporate flight departments, public aircraft operations, and certain Part 125 operations must also submit information but are not required to review pilot records via the PRD.

The web-based PRD replaces processes used under the Pilot Records Improvement Act (PRIA), NATA said, adding that the PRIA system will be completely phased out by 2024. Besides expanded applicability, a key difference is the PRD calls on operators to continuously upload pilot records throughout their employment rather than furnishing information when a pilot is in the hiring process.
