Sporty’s Pilot Shop this week unveiled the handheld L6 COM Radio that features a built-in Lemo jack. This functionality makes it a viable emergency backup for business jet pilots who use the compatible Lemo plugs in their airplanes.
The radio builds on technology from Sporty’s PJ2 Com Radio, which allowed for a standard headset to be directly plugged in, but instead has the six-pin Lemo plug. If an aircraft’s panel loses power during flight, the radio not only allows for a headset to be plugged directly into it but also provides power to the headset.
In addition to the Lemo jack, Sporty’s latest radio features a large, backlit screen; an automatic noise limiter; a 3.5-mm headphone jack designed to be used during airshows to listen to air traffic; and six watts of peak output transmit power. It is powered by six AA batteries or via a backup USB-C plug connected to any 2.4-amp source.
The radio retails for $279, but Sporty’s is offering it at a limited-time introductory price of $249.
