General Atomics AeroTec Systems applied the attractive depths and soft tones of a matte black paint job to a Gulfstream G450 owned by Vienna, Austria-based SCK Aviation. AeroTec purchased Ruag Aerospace Services at Germany’s Oberpfaffenhofen Airport in 2021. It specializes in aircraft painting as well as upgrades and modifications on the Do228 twin-turboprop and Embraer and Bombardier business jets.
Following chemical stripping, AeroTec’s paint experts applied a matte black finish to the entire airplane, along with diagonal and asymmetrical glossy black stripes from front to rear. An unusual added touch was painting the interior of the main door to match the exterior, “for a perfect appearance when the main door is open,” according to AeroTec.
Applying matte finishes to such a large area is challenging, the company explained, because it must be done flawlessly; reworking or touchups can’t be done to a matte topcoat.
“It looks even better in real life than on the pictures/renderings, which is normally never the case,” said SCK Aviation founder Sandra Corinna Kinzl. The registration characters and logo on the empennage were also designed to fit with the paint scheme—these were designed by graphic designer Andrin Rohner.
