Genesys Aerosystems has signed a memorandum of understanding with Daedalean to explore integration of the latter company's vision-based autonomy and pilot-assistance solutions into the Genesys avionics suite. Flight testing of Daedalean’s OmniX evaluation kit has already begun on Genesys’ OH-58 Kiowa helicopter.
Daedalean has been developing PilotEye, an AI-based visual traffic awareness system for detecting non-cooperative traffic that it intends to certify. OmniX is also using AI vision-based solutions, not only for detecting traffic but also for navigation and landing guidance.
The company calls this “situational intelligence,” building on the term situational awareness that refers to pilots maintaining awareness of their aircraft’s location, status, flight path, and so on.
“Having a venerable aviation company like Genesys Aerosystems choose to test Daedalean’s technology is a signal that the industry is recognizing the value of AI-based systems both for pilot assistance now and as a step toward autonomy,” said Daedalean founder and CEO Luuk van Dijk. “Central to the value of Daedalean’s systems is that we have worked closely with regulators to ensure the systems’ certifiability.”
