Garmin has appointed Wisk Air Helicopters as an authorized avionics dealer, expanding avionics installation and repair capabilities for fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft owners and operators based in Northwestern Ontario, Canada.
Based in Thunder Bay, Wisk Air Helicopters began offering avionics services in 2023 with one technician, and since then, demand has climbed rapidly from commercial operators and private owners such as North Star Air, Wilderness North, Air Bravo, Thunder Airlines, KBM Resource Group, and Confederation College’s Cessna 172 training fleet.
To help meet the growing need for technicians, Wisk Air Helicopters launched an avionics work placement initiative, which is supported by the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC). The fund helps pay for hands-on training and experience for avionics students.
“Becoming an authorized Garmin avionics dealer is a major step forward in aircraft modernization for the wider aviation community in Northwestern Ontario,” said Mark Wiskemann, Wisk Air Helicopters president and CEO. “Thanks to NOHFC’s support in building and supporting local talent, we now have a highly trained team in place with the expertise and capacity to work both on our fleet and with various commercial operators in the North who require these services. The graduates who trained here with the support of NOHFC are now employed with us full-time and are a key part of our team supporting commercial operators across Northwestern Ontario.”
