Nuremberg, Germany-based FAI Technik is now an authorized dealer and installation center for SpaceX’s Starlink low-Earth-orbit satcom system. The MRO is a subsidiary of FAI Aviation Group, which operates a fleet of Bombardier Global Expresses, Challengers, and Learjets.
The company’s first Starlink installation was on a Global Express XRS, and plans call for Starlink upgrades on other airplanes in the FAI fleet and for external customers, with installations at its Albrecht Dürer Airport (EDDN) Part 145 MRO facility.
With the Starlink electronically steered antenna mounted on top of the fuselage, the satcom system provides high-speed connectivity worldwide. Starlink’s new performance antenna enables download speeds up to 1 Gbps, twice the 500 Mbps of the previous-generation antenna.
Service costs range from $4,000 per month for regional service, including 25 GB of data and download speeds up to 250 Mbps, to $12,500 per month for unlimited regional service at 500 Mbps download. Unlimited worldwide service at the highest download speed is priced at $20,000 per month.
“Our appointment as an authorized SpaceX Starlink dealer and installer marks an important milestone in the continued expansion of FAI Technik’s modification and connectivity capabilities,” said FAI Technik managing director Michael Axtmann. “As demand for high-speed, reliable connectivity continues to grow across the business aviation sector, we expect Starlink to become a highly attractive addition to the range of services and solutions we offer aircraft owners and operators.”
