Smiths Aerospace is focusing on its advanced integrated systems capabilities here at Asian Aerospace (Stand A731), where capabilities on such trainer and combat aircraft as Hawk, T-50, HJT36, F-35 and UAVs are featured.
Smiths’ broad range of applications could help it to achieve even greater market penetration as a major supplier of electrical power and information systems, as well as cockpit displays, mechanical systems and mission computing. Doubtless its record in supplying health and usage monitoring systems (HUMS) was a factor in Smiths being selected by Korean Aerospace Industries to provide a next-generation system for the Korean Helicopter Program (KHP).
The company claims to be the world leader in the supply of HUMS for both military and commercial helicopter applications, its single box providing increased safety, availability, reliability and maintainability and life cycle costs. The Smiths’ HUMS includes an airborne data acquisition and processing unit, pilot display and PC card data transfer unit, as well as airborne and ground software.
Valued in excess of $20 million, the new KHP program will include more than 250 helicopters for the Korean Army plus a potential to retrofit many platforms in current use.
