Keeping control of where tools are kept

Keeping control of where tools are kept is an important issue in aircraft production lines or maintenance facilities, especially because of concerns about possible foreign object damage to engines. With  these concerns in mind, Zeroshift (Hall 4 Stand E17) is here demonstrating the second generation of its Intelligent Tool Control (ITC). The system links laptop computers with tool boxes lined with foam cut-out cavities to house each specific tool. They are fitted with optical sensors that automatically detect when a tool is removed and when it is replaced. To access a tool, users must enter a personal identification number via either a swipe card or a keypad. The system will compare the PIN with its internal or network database and allow (or disallow) access to the tool drawers.
