Content Body

Safe Flight Instruments received FAA certification of its SCc angle of attack (AoA)-based cockpit lift indicator, the company announced on Monday at EAA AirVenture 2015.

The leading-edge-mounted device provides real-time measurement of angle of attack and resulting lift available, regardless of aircraft weight, wing loading or center of gravity. Rather than relying on the pilot to compute all those factors as they relate to indicated airspeed, the SCc provides precise information on how close to the stall the aircraft is at all times.

Using a wing-mounted transducer, the SCc measures the wing’s leading edge “stagnation point” and “flow field,” feeding data to its indexer computer. A glareshield-mounted LED-lit display features a pilot-adjustable reference marker for setting AoA targets for the flight.

Previously available for the light sport and experimental markets, the SCc is now available for certified aircraft through Safe Flight dealers, including Gulf Coast Avionics, Pacific Coast Avionics and Aircraft Spruce. MSRP is $1,895 and includes the lift transducer, indexer computer and all the necessary wiring, connectors and installation hardware.
