Avalex Technologies of Gulf Breeze, Florida, introduced its Osprey Mission Management System this week at Heli-Expo 2019. This system “meets the challenges of integrating a wide range of special mission systems and offers customers a smart, ready and rugged solution,” according to Tad Ilns, founder and president of Avalex.
The Osprey Mission Management System provides the full system, said Ilns—all the communications management, video management, mission processors, mission management software, and integration through the Garmin touchscreen controllers, as well as routing the tactical maps up to the G5000H. "You can see this on the Ace Aeronautics BlackHawk retrofit, where they’ve installed a Garmin G5000H cockpit," he said. "The system includes multiple field-proven products and provides seamless integration of our products, including cockpit management, smart-multifunction displays, digital video recorders, video/data switching, and mission processors."
In helicopters, he said this is especially important because it reduces the number of control heads, weight, amount of wiring (which drives weight) and, most important, training. With one common user interface, operators only need training on one device, not multiple devices, according to Ilns.
Avalex has seven different product lines that it puts together, essentially as a complete mission kit for operators.
